'The Lord Almighty
caused Himself to be called as Guru Nanak'
Sri Guru Nanak Sahib was the incarnation of the Lord Almighty, a prophet, a Jagat Guru from His very birth. He did not, therefore, need the guidance, aid or help of a worldly Guru. He was a born Param Guru, Jagat Guru, Guru Eternal, Supreme Guru. He was a Maker and Producer of Gurus-Divine. He was the Aad and Jugad Guru. As there is no count before one and before God, so is Sri Guru Nanak Sahib, the Supreme Jagat Guru. From this Guru Supreme has again emerged The Guru Eternal in the form of Sri Guru Granth Sahib radiating the Eternal Glory of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in 1469. He was send to earth by God to teach people about the true meaning of life and educate them about God. Guru Nanak’s father, Mehta Kalu was a Patwari- an accountant of land revenue in the government. Guru's mother was Mata Tripta and he had one older sister, Bibi Nanki. From the very childhood, Bibi Nanki saw the Light of God in Guru Nanak but did not reveal this secret to anyone. She is known as the first disciple of Guru Nanak.
Before the birth of Guru Nanak, there were no Sikhs in this world. The major religions in India were Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism. People who became he followers of Guru Nanak were known as Sikhs. Guru Nanak did not follow Muslim ritual nor did he follow Hindu beliefs. Rather he proclaimed that all humans are equal regardless of class, color, religion, caste and gender. As instructed by God, he introduced a faith called Sikhism in this world whose sole purpose is to eliminate all superstitions and unite one with God and attain salvation.
